The College NSS has two units under the University of Madras. Unit I headed by Mr.R.Suresh Babu and Unit II headed by Ms.A.Mary Princess Lavanya. 200 volunteers from the undergraduate programmes actively participate in various social service activities. They participate in rallies, seminars, camps, and awareness programmes on Aids, Social evils, Domestic violence, Gender issues, Diabetes, Road safety, Environment etc. Annual activities of the units include a personality development workshop for the volunteers at the beginning of each academic year.
On 16th March 2011 the workshop titled "Personality Development and Outreach Programme" was organized for the volunteers and the Chief guest of the Day Mr. R.Sooria Kumar Trainer and Communication Skill. NSS Units also Conduct a Handicrafts cum Exhibition cum Sale- NGOs, As part of the NSS annual activities, One Day Special Camp in Thiruvanmiyur Kuppam are organized at Mar.2010, NSS volunteers brought various services to the residents. Ways of preparing simple handicrafts were taught to children; women were informed about self-help groups and its benefits. The volunteers also conducted a survey on the socio-economic conditions of the residents. An eye camp, a veterinary camp and health awareness programme was organized. The unit helps to build self-confidence and sensitizes its members to the society around them. |
